Research<\/h1>\n

Scientific research represents a key lever for the Sant\u2019Anna School of Advanced Studies, for its development policy and for the consequences on training programmes. Research is conducted at the Institutes and Interdisciplinary research centres<\/strong> which programme and manage activities, enhancing the relationship between training and research, interdisciplinary teaching and interaction with the cultural, social and economic world.<\/p>\n

The scientific community of the Sant\u2019Anna School of Advanced Studies is composed of a team 900 including teaching staff, research staff, research fellows, collaborators and PhD students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s definitely a young community, considering that over 50% of it consists of research fellows and PhD students.<\/p>\n

Publications and Citations<\/h4>\n

In recent years, the Sant\u2019Anna School of Advanced Studies, partly thanks to strategies concerning the distribution of university research funds, has significantly increased its exposure in major bibliometric databases. The total number of publications on Scopus has exceeded 16,000 papers. On average, the School\u2019s faculty, researchers and researchers publish nearly six papers each, every year. During 2020-2025, the School totalled 101,967 citations, with an average of 15.8 citations per paper and a weighted citation impact (FWCI) of 2.09.
In the WoS database too, the School boasts a portfolio of more than 13,700 scientific publications with an H-index value of 204 and an average of 24.57 citations per publication.<\/p>\n

Research Quality Evaluation (VQR)<\/h4>\n

In the 2015-2019 evaluation, the School ranked as one of the top institutions nationwide in terms of scientific production and research enhancement (Third Mission) and ranked first in the overall ranking for scientific production of faculty and research staff in the fields of biological sciences (Area 05), agricultural and veterinary studies (Area 07), law (Area 12) and economics and statistics (Area 13a).<\/p>\n

Research Projects and Self-funding<\/h4>\n

The high number of research projects enables the School to fund its research activities without resorting to public funds and to develop innovative business ideas and technologies. In the 2026 financial statements, proceeds from the School\u2019s research activities exceeded 36 million euros, a sum comparable to that achieved by the best Italian universities, which are much larger.<\/p>\n

Pubblicazioni e citazioni<\/h4>\nNel corso degli ultimi anni la Scuola Superiore Sant\u2019Anna, grazie anche alle strategie sulla distribuzione dei fondi ricerca di ateneo, ha notevolmente incrementato la sua esposizione sulle principali banche dati bibliometriche. Il numero di pubblicazioni complessivamente presenti su Scopus ha superato quota 13.800 documenti. Mediamente i docenti, i ricercatori e le ricercatrici della Scuola pubblicano ogni anno quasi sei prodotti a testa. Nel periodo 2018-2023 la Scuola ha cumulato 75.678 citazioni, con una media di 13,0 citazioni per prodotto e un impatto citazionale ponderato (FWCI) di 1,62.\nAnche nella banca dati WoS la Scuola vanta un portafoglio di oltre 9.027 prodotti scientifici con un valore di H-index di 156 e una media di 21,65 citazioni per pubblicazione.\n

Valutazione della ricerca (VQR)<\/span><\/h4>\nNella valutazione 2015-2019 la Scuola si colloca tra le prime istituzioni a livello nazionale per produzione scientifica e valorizzazione della ricerca (Terza Missione) e si posiziona al primo posto nella classifica generale per produzione scientifica dei docenti e del personale di ricerca nei settori delle scienze biologiche (Area 05), degli studi agrari e veterinari (Area 07), del diritto (Area 12) e dell'economia e statistica (Area 13a).\n

Progetti di ricerca e autofinanziamento<\/h4>\nL\u2019alto numero di progetti di ricerca consente alla Scuola di autofinanziare le proprie attivit\u00e0 di ricerca senza gravare sui finanziamenti dello Stato e di sviluppare idee imprenditoriali e tecnologie innovative.
