The Third Mission represents a new frontier for Universities, within which they can implement their intervention: for the Sant\u2019Anna School of Advanced Studies this means strengthening its capacity to produce value for collective society<\/strong>, acting as a driver for social-economic, cultural and technological development, through and beyond research and training, which represent the first two missions of any university.\u00a0<\/p>\n This involves going beyond the enhancement and transfer of knowledge<\/strong>, including not only public engagement and continuing education ventures<\/strong>, but also other activities (partnerships, placements, support to institutions, communication etc.) that can produce value for collective society, pursuing close synergy with research and training.\u00a0<\/p>\n In the field of technology transfer the Sant\u2019Anna School of Advanced Studies is one of the best universities in Italy in terms of the ratio between patents and number of professors\/researchers<\/strong> and, since 1990, it has generated over 70 spin-off companies which operate not only in high-tech sectors such as ICT, robotics, photonics, micro-engineering and biomedics, but also in sectors linked to the protection of the environment and financial, technological and legal advice.<\/p>\n come volano di sviluppo socio-economico, culturale e tecnologico, mediante e oltre la ricerca e la formazione che rappresentano le due prime missioni di ogni realt\u00e0 universitaria.\n\nCi\u00f2 significa andare al di l\u00e0 della componente di valorizzazione e trasferimento della conoscenza<\/strong>, includendo non solo le iniziative di public engagement e di formazione permanente<\/strong>, ma anche le atre attivit\u00e0 (partnership, placement, supporto alle istituzioni, comunicazione, etc.) che possono produrre valore per la collettivit\u00e0, perseguendo una stretta sinergia con la ricerca e la formazione.\n\nNel campo del trasferimento tecnologico la Scuola Superiore Sant\u2019Anna \u00e8 tra le migliori universit\u00e0 in Italia per rapporto tra brevetti e numero di professori\/ricercatori<\/strong> e dal 1990 ad oggi ha generato oltre 70 imprese spin-off<\/strong> che operano non solo nei settori ad alta tecnologia quali ICT, robotica, fotonica, microingegneria, biomedicale, ma anche in quelli legati alla tutela ambientale e alla consulenza finanziaria, tecnologica e
